Music + Travel

Cher Australian Tour Perth October 2018 This is a favorite past time of mine – Music + Travel = Long Weekend Adventures As you know we are from Port Lincoln, which is a 7 hour drive to South Australia’s capital being Adelaide or a 50 minute flight via Qantaslink or Rex Airlines. Most Artists come to Adelaide however they are always during the middle of a week and where is the fun in that! You could fly over in the afternoon and catch the concert that night and fly back the next morning. However these Artists will play a Saturday night somewhere in Australia which is what I research. This way we can go over on a Thursday or Friday and be back home on a Sunday afternoon ready for the working week Monday. So as you can see, if you didn’t already know, Cher came to tour Australia and New Zealand this year. Flights researched and hubby and I were off to Adelaide with Qantaslink on Thursday night after work. Where possible flights will be early or late as why would you want to miss the whole day in a plane or airport?! Staying at the Oaks Plaza Pier in Glenelg on the beachfront and only a short walk to the Marina for a wonderful selection of Bars & Restaurants. I highly recommend Marina Sunset Bar’s for their Fishbowl Cocktail (supposed to be a share cocktail but whilst on holidays rules go out the window 😘) Please don’t go overboard on these cocktails especially when flying again at 6am the next morning.Yes we were off to Perth first thing in the morning so that meant a 5am start at the Adelaide Airport (hubby has requested that I be truthful & tell you that “I’m NOT a morning person! EVER!”) So my first stop after baggage drop & security was check in at the Qantas Lounge for a much needed COFFEE! This coffee preordered using Skip app which can be downloaded before traveling – Thank me later. After the Qantas flight to Perth and collecting an Avis hire car, we were off to explore Perth & surrounds. Please always get a hire car with GPS so there is no stress (arguments) whilst on holidays 😘 I had never been to Perth before & hubby had, 15 years previous. As Western Australia is 2 & a half hours behind South Australia it was 7.30am when we landed. We decided to travel up the coast to Scarborough for some breakfast at The Sandbar on Scarborough Beach Road. OMG I loved Scarborough!! All esplanades should look like this one! From Scarborough we headed to Esperance – I had always thought these places were miles away from each other but I was mistaken. We had planned to do Breakfast in Scarborough & lunch in Esperance but had to make changes to this after arriving in Esperance mid morning. Too early to stop in at Little Creatures Brewery for lunch & a pint liked we had planned. After some sightseeing & walking around Esperance for hubby to reminisce his last visit there (15yrs ago) we drove on to Perth. We were staying at the Hyatt Regency on Adelaide Terrace & this hotel doesn’t disappoint!! Book a Regency Club room to enjoy exclusive access to the Regency Club Lounge, located on the hotel’s eighth floor with views of the Swan River. The Regency Club Lounge offers daily continental breakfast, exclusive check-in, all day refreshments, and evening drinks and canapes, all of which are included with your stay. & yes lollies go quite well with a good WA Sauvignon Blanc 😍As it was only Friday night & Cher wasn’t until Saturday night, what better sightseeing tour to do than the River Dinner Cruise. Buffet dinner with a choice of drink packages depending on your individual tastes. Cruising down the Swan River past the new Optus Stadium, under the Matagarup Pedestrians Bridge (looks like a ribbon), past the Crown Casino complex & back to port in front of the Swan Bells. This Bell Tower is spectacular at night with its changing colours with Perth skyline behind it. Saturday morning we decided to check out the DFO Perth – Premium Outlet Shopping which was only open a week beforehand. I’m a self confessed shopoholic & if it was an Olympic sport I would win Gold 🥇Hubby indulges my little shopping trips as we have an agreement in place – I get to shop one day & I’ll indulge his sports games if they are on. Win Win & no arguments!! There were bargains to be had & some Premium shops to browse in if you didn’t want to spend too much. Now the reason for coming to Perth in the first place was CHER!! concert held in RAC Arena – a great choice of venue. Her show was AMAZING & for 72 years old she still had the vocals we all know & love. If I look that good & can manage costume changes like her at 72 I’d be happy. Hubby wasn’t sure about seeing Cher & had his doubts about the show BUT part way through he was singing the ABBA tunes & the iconic “If I Could Turn Back Time” (I will let you in on a secret – Cher is number 2 on Hubbys Best Concerts list 🤫) So do yourself a favour & the next time one of your favourite artists come to Australia, pick a different city to attend the concert. A quick & easy little getaway to be had 🤩
